WOLVES—WHERE PLENTIFUL—A friend of mine is anxious to try wolf hunting and I would like to know through the H-T-T if there is any place where it can be made pay, and if so where? How many, and what kind of dogs would be needed?
There are some places where wolves are really plentiful and bounties high, for instance the northern parts of Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota, but hunting with dogs is out of the question in these wooded districts. There are a few places in the West where wolves are still found in good numbers and they may be hunted with dogs, hut bounties are low and the payment of same uncertain. Coyotes are abundant in many parts of the West end hunting conditions excellent, but one has trouble in collecting bounty money in most states. On the whole, trapping pays better than hunting, and if there is a really good place for hunting either wolves or coyotes with dogs, for profit, I do not know where it is. Stag- hounds or greyhounds are used mostly for hunting wolves and there should not he lest than four in a pack.
