WOLF TRAPPING—Will some reader of this magazine give me some information in regard to trapping wolves in a cedar swamp in a thickly settled part of the country where there is hardly any game and wolves are much hunted with hounds? Give your best sets and methods of baiting and size of traps. Is there any way of setting traps to avoid the possibility of catching hounds?
Your question is indeed a difficult one to answer. As I do not know all of the conditions, it is not likely that I can give any information that will be of value. I suggest that you try setting traps on a trail leading to bait not having the traps near the bait. Perhaps some of the northern wolf trappers can help you in selecting a method for trapping wolf. I would also suggest reading “Wolf and Coyote Trapping” as you might find something of value.
