Wolfhound-What breed is best for wolf and coyote hunting?
Either the Irish wolfhound or the Russian stags are good if you can get the real thing. Wolves in most sections are hunted by sight and are not trailed as some think; therefore a large, fast and powerful dog is needed. As a rule greyhounds are too small for the western “Lobo” or buffalo wolf, but would do well on coyotes.
The Irish and Russian wolfhounds are both good dogs to worry any animals of their size. The Scotch hound is a cross form the English bloodhound, and will trail well. The Irish and Russian dogs have what the hunters term a “hard nose” they run their game more by sight, like the greyhound. It is just as easy to raise a large dog as a small one; give them clean food and they will be sturdy and vigorous.
