WOLF (Canis lupus). An animal when pressed by hunger, unite in packs, and hunt down their prey. The wolf has strength enough to carry away a sheep, and few dogs are equally matched with it. If taken young, it may be tamed, and will evince much attachment to its keeper.
Harewood, Harry. A Dictionary of Sports. London: T. Tegg and son, 1835.
