WORMS EATING GINSENG ROOTS—What will kill worms that eat ginseng buds and roots in the spring before it comes up? What kind of worms are they?
These worms may be any of several different species, Gardeners find fighting these insects their most difficult task. No perfectly satisfactory remedy has been found, except heating the soil before planting, to the point where a potato put in it is cooked. Of course, you can’t do this for a large garden. You would better write to your state agricultural experiment stations and ask them for their advice. If the summer has been a wet one the roots may be dug in October, but in dry seasons the plant dies in September and cannot be found after that.
