Will you advise me in the matter of choosing a good all round revolver for target shooting and occasional shots at small game? | |

I believe that you will find the .38 caliber using the .38 Short and Long, also .38 S. & W. Special cartridges the best size for the purposes you mention. This caliber leads all the rest in extensive use and sale* today, it being the popular gun with the U. S. Rangers who are about the only class of people with the exception of police officers who have any need or excuse for carrying a revolver. The Special is one of the most accurate revolver cartridges we have, has quite a bit of killing power and possesses a slight recoil. I remember the first one hand gun 1 owned was one of the Colt's New Navy revolvers, now obsolete, in this caliber, and my first experience was in shooting woodchucks with this weapon. If you live near a good sized colony of these animals you may learn considerable about handling your gun by hunting them. For the revolver I would advise either a Colt or Smith & Wesson with six or six and one half inch barrel.
