Winston and His Maine Deer


Winston is my next door neighbor, got this deer in his own back woods. Winston has a torn rotator cuff and is unable to do much lifting. He can aim and pull the trigger but no hauling. He called my house for help (I was out) so my brother-in-law, Roger, went over and helped haul it out for him.

Whicked Nice one, Congratulations Winston!

Winston scouts his hunting area thoroughly in late October. He “says” he’s bird hunting but he doesn’t shoot birds. He knows the trails, terrain, the timing and habits of the deer in the area. He invests the time stealthily to discover and identify each of the individual deer in order to select one for his future harvest.

Then he builds a tree stand overlooking the most probable prime spot, with lots of pine boughs to camouflage from sight and smell. Most years he is rewarded for his planning and preparation. Of course it helps if you’re a good shot as well.
