Growing up in Texas I was fortunate enough to have land to hunt on that has been passed down from my great grandfather. The land is actually where my great grandfather's family settled after moving to Texas from Germany.. My understanding of the wilderness and it's wildlife is one of the most cherished values my papaw (grandfather Texas style) and dad have passed down to me. I never understood why both my papaw and my dad always wanted me to get the first shot or kill.
Now that I have two children of my own I can truly understand the heartfelt emotions they must have had as they witnessed many proud moments they unselfishly awarded me with. My children will have the same opportunity to learn the nature of the outdoors as I had. Discipline, manners, respect and just a good whole hearted person is exactly what one can expect if they acknowledge the presence of the great outdoors.
Never will I be able to thank my grandfather and dad for the treasured memories of our hunting trips throughout my childhood and even today. I can not wait until the moment my children make their connection with the great outdoors.
