WEAR OF RIFLE BARREL—What rifle barrel will last longest—one made for black powder and one using the black powder cartridge only, or one having nickel steel barrel and using the smokeless cartridges with metal cased bullets only?
The rifle made for the black powder cartridges and using that kind only will outwear any arm using metal cased bullets, but either one, if a big game rifle, will stand far more shooting than any one will do in a lifetime, shooting at game. Must of the high power guns will stand anywhere from 5000 to 15,000 rounds before accuracy is affected, and black powder guns, using lead bullets, will stand from 20,000 to 40,000, or more. This, of course, applies to guns that are well cared for.
