WATERPROOFING SHOES—Will someone tell me how to waterproof leather shoes without spoiling the leather?
Various waterproofing remedies can be had at any sporting goods store. Give the shoes a good rubbing, use a woolen cloth and put in the sun to dry. I gave my shoes a coat last spring and they are waterproof yet. A Canadian reader sends the following: In answer to an inquiry for a waterproof for leather, your correspondent might try the following, bearing in mind that the liquid measure in use here is the Imperial which is greater than the wine mea sure in the U. 8.: 6 oz. mutton fat, 6 oz. beeswax, 4 oz. rosin and 1 pint linseed oil. This is not only a good waterproof dressing but makes an excellent salve for cuts, burns, etc. ‚don’t use fat that has any salt in it.
