WATERPROOFING FORMULA FOR SHOES | |

WATERPROOFING FORMULA FOR SHOES—Can you give me a formula to waterproof a pair of tan high cut shoes so they will retain their color and be soft and pliable?
I’ve tried many things without much success. It depends on the shoe; a good shoe will not leak for a long time anyhow. Fill the shoes as high as you can with harness oil, and let stand overnight, every week or two. This is messy, but it serves well, and well wiped out, the shoe is not bad on the feet, but ruins socks. For years I’ve used just plain castor oil on tramping shoes. I rub it in inside and out, warmed a little to work it in better. Warmed and poured into the shoe, and then poured out, and wiped out is messy—but it softens and water proofs the shoe.
