Velocity Loss of a Carbine | |
|
I expect to buy a .30-30 rifle for deer shooting in Northern Wisconsin. Would a 20- or 22inch barrel be as powerful
and accurate as the regular one of 26 inches?
While there is a slight loss of power and accuracy in the shorter barreled guns, it is too slight to warrant one relinquishing the undeniable advantages these lengths have when it comes to quick handling and convenience in packing and carrying when after game. The mobility of the short carbines have made them very popular with game shooters, especially where one would be in wooded country. It is significant to note that the later model high-power rifles are fitted with barrels shorter than was the average a decade or so ago.
