TWO PIECE DEADFALL TRIGGERS—How is the two- piece deadfall trigger made?
The two-piece deadfall trigger is the most simple imaginable. It is simply an upright stick of the proper length and thickness (about six inches long and one-half inch thick for a skunk deadfall), stood on end between the bed-piece and the fall, and a bait stick of the same thickness, and about a foot long, flattened slightly at the end, placed on top of the upright stick and under the fall. The weight of the fall holds the two sticks in position but a pull on the bait upsets the upright stick and allows the fall to drop. It is described and illustrated in our book, “Deadfalls and Snares.”
