Two-Blade Damascus Barrels | |
|
Two-Blade Damascus Barrels-Will the American two-blade Damascus barrels, stand a load of four drams of black powder or a proportionate load of smokeless; and is there danger in using a gun that is little loose and shaky?
By this, I am not sure what barrels you allude to; there are no Damascus barrels made in America. A real, imported, two-blade Damascus barrel would stand any reasonable load of black or smokeless powder. Four drams of black powder in a 12 gauge gun is not a reasonable load, however, and while it would not burst such a barrel it would be rather straining on the gun if used regularly. It ill not improve an already shaky joint and while there is no danger in using a gun that is worn loose, it is advisable to have the catch tightened, if possible. I once used an old English gun which was worn so much and was so loose that it would open completely at every shot, when black powder was used, but never with smokeless.
