Trap Line Revolver-What kind of revolver is best for a trap line gun?
This is a difficult question to answer unless you give full particulars. I do not know what you expect to use the revolver for. If for killing small game for bait and food, and for killing animals in traps, buy a .22 caliber. There are some good revolvers of this caliber-the best is the Smith and Wesson Model 1911, and next to this one comes the Colt Police Positive Target revolver. Many would prefer the latter because it is a few ounces lighter. These arms are costly, and this, along with the greater simplicity of the single shot pistol, would lead me to choose the pistol in preference. The pistol also has more power with the same cartridge. The Smith and Wesson Target pistol is best, but costs too much for most of us, and the Stevens Off-Hand and Diamond Models will do just as well, while the prices are reasonable. If you want a revolver to use for chance shots at big game, you can get nothing more deadly than the Colt’s Frontier Model, single action revolver, .44-40 caliber. It should have a barrel of good length. Some like the .32-20 better as it does not jump so violently.
