The best way to trap fox is to make a bed about three feet in diameter of most any kind of chaff. Make it deep enough to cover the trap, a size 2 is sufficient. Make the set smooth and level; bait with a piece of fowl on the inside of the jaws of the trap; also place some bait around the outside of the bed. Bait should be scented with oil of anise and put some on the pan of the traps. This will induce the fox to come up to the bed, and in seeking the attractive odor he will commence to paw and will step into the trap. It is important that the trapper in setting his traps for fox should use leather or fur gloves so that the traps will be free of human odor. A piece of fresh meat dragged along the ground will attract fox to the set from a great distance.
