Find some trail where the fox is most apt to pass along, empty a gallon of wood ashes out in a round pile and set your trap in the center of the pile. The fox is sure to step in the ashes for I have never seen it to fail. The only kind of bait I ever use for trapping fox is burnt meat skins; that will attract their attention for a long distance.
