By E. F. Keith
0 Lord, just give me eyes to see
The grandeur of this country,
With meadows smooth, and mountains high
That seem to blend, and reach the sky
That shelter animals with silky fur
O Lord, that's what we're living for.
O Lord, just give us hearts that's right
To thank Thee for these grandest sights,
You placed these things on earth for us
You thought of all these things first
0 Lord, Thou made the mountains high
You made the blend twixt them and sky.
O Lord, we thank thee for Thy grace,
That placed us here in proper place,
We tramp the earth from early morn, And trap the fur you placed thereon
O Lord, we thank Thee for this gift, That gives the poor a helping lift.
O Lord, we can't help but see, so clear The love you hold for earth so dear
By making it a beauty spot, so sweet Where flowered dells and forest meet
O Lord, we thank Thee for these things For from your love these blessings spring.
O Lord, while on this earth I dwell,
Just give me fur to trap and sell
And when at last I get my call,
No one will hear a murmur fall,
And chisel deep, on my headstone tall
The Lord He giveth, and taketh all.
