To stop Leaking Boats-Can you tell me what is best to use to stop a leak in a boat?
Examine your boat and see if the bottom is well nailed on. There should be a nail every inch or one and one-half inches apart. Then let boat lay bottom side up a few days until cracks open up, then get some coal tar which only costs 20 cents per gallon. Put about a quart in an old paint bucket or molasses bucket, set on the fire till it comes to a boil. Now, with an old discarded paint brush, daub cracks inside and out; repeat for three days then let it get dry. Then put boat in water, let it swell up overnight. If that doesn’t stop it from leaking, paint the leaky place with hot tar then spread a piece of an old sack on tar then spread tar on cloth, then tack as thin piece of board over cloth.
