TO KEEP MICE FROM EATING STRINGS—What can I put on strings that I use on fox snares to keep the mice from eating them?
This is a sticker; red pepper in a little oil or fat rubbed on the strings would prevent the mice gnawing them, but whether the foxes would smell the pepper and fat I could not say. Red pepper in paint or varnish is put on oar handles, rifle stocks, axe helves, etc., to prevent porcupines and mice chewing them.
