To Catch Foxes-Would New Jersey be a successful place for fur farming? Would wild gray foxes and skunks do for fur farming? Can a gray fox be caught in a box trap or any other way not to injure his foot. Kindly give me a method.
Yes. Very well. Try old coarse mesh fish netting, swung above a bait several feet so that a trigger will let it fall over a bait, the way the Indians used to do. Two or three layers of net, hung loosely in a hoop six or eight feet in diameter caught up on a limb of a tree over an open space, where a bait is staked to the ground. When the bait is pulled, it throws a catch and lets the fine wire go up and the net come down. The hoop falls outside the fox, which gets into the netting, and tangles up.
