Temper of Lead Bullet-What temper of lead bullet would give the best results in a 38-55 target rifle, using King’s Semi Smokeless Powder?
King’s Semi Smokeless powder does not develop extreme pressure and a hard bullet is not needed, in fact, I believe that a fairly soft bullet will give best results, especially when using reduced charges. A bullet composed of 1 part tin to 20 parts of lead should be hard enough, but if found a little too soft try 1 part tin to 15 parts of lead. Use a pot holding a good quantity of metal, weight out the two metals and melt the lead fist, then add the tin. Drop in a small lump of tallow and when the dense smoke arises drop in a lighted match and burn it off; then skim the metal with the ladle. Keep mould and lead very hot.
