Temperature of Brook Trout Waters
The brook trout, although found in many lakes, is essentially a creature of running waters highly aerated and of low temperature, sixty-five degrees The brook being about the highest temperature consistent with their continued existence and welfare. So, in a way, the speckled trout is a neighbor of the ruffed grouse, the white-tailed deer, and the gray squirrel, living in forest and woodland streams, spring born and fed, where the water, running between wooded banks, is shaded and cool, and the many waterfalls and rocky riffles afford air in abundance.
