Supplemental Chamber-I would like to know something about the supplemental chamber for use in a high-powered rifle to adapt it to pistol calibers. Are they perfectly satisfactory and in what rifle would they work best?
The supplemental chamber is made for all hand-operated arms of .30 caliber, also .303, .32 Special, .32049, .35 and .405 calibers. I do not advise their use and would much prefer to have reloading tools and reload cartridges for short range shooting. The pistol cartridges are not always of the proper diameter for good work and as a rule the pitch of the rifling is too sharp to do good shooting with them. The .32 Winchester has a twist of one turn in 16 inches and the diameter of the bullet is .321 inch. This are with the supplemental chamber uses the .32 Short Colt cartridge, which has a smaller diameter and the correct twist is one turn in 24 inches. Their continued use will cause leading of the barrel.
