A selected hemp string about 1/8 inch in diameter should be used. Loop the ends of the string around the notches in the ends of the stick so that the string will be about 5 inches from the bow when measured at the middle. When not in use the bow should be unstrung or else it will become fatigued, as it is called in physics, and so lose some of its elasticity; and when the bow is put away for the season it is a good plan to rub it well with oil.
