SPLIT-STICK SKINNER— Will you explain the use and give a diagram of the split stick that is used in skinning mink tails?
Cut a switch a half inch, more or less, in diameter. Cut a piece off a foot or more in length and split half way down. Now place bone of mink tail in split and press on both sides of tail. This holds the split stick firmly on tail bone and by pulling toward end of tail with one hand and with other held around body next root of tail the hide will peel off “slick as a whistle”. Both hind legs of the animal and around tail should be skinned before using the split stick.
