SPAWNING Of Fish, is the act of depositing the oviparous matter of the female, and of its being impregnated with that of the male. Most species of river fish, and many of the sea kind, produce their young in this way. In the oviparous fishes, sexual intercourse takes place, and the eggs hatched in the uterus. In the oviparous hermaphrodite fishes, the spawn is impregnated by the same individual that deposits the eggs.
