Sour Dough-Can someone give me a recipe for making sour dough bread such as used on the cow and sheep ranches?
Take a common lard pail or any small covered bucket; make a batter of flour, warm water, a spoonful of sugar and a pinch of salt-about a quart in all-cover and set in a warm place until sour. Take nearly all of this and mix with it some flour, lard, a little sugar and a teaspoonful of baking soda, making a stiff dough. Put this in your bread pan, set it in a warm place, and let it rise; then bake. Take the remaining sour dough and mix with it a little more flour, water, sugar and salt, and set it aside for the next baking.
