The web snowshoes are best, as the snow is too loose, and the country too brushy for skis. You can travel much faster with skis if the ground is clean and fairly level, and the snow in good condition, but in the northern forests it is seldom so. The only places you can use skis to advantage Is on the frozen lakes.
