SNARING WIRE, SIZE—What kind and what size of wire is used for snaring skunks and opossums?
Skunks and opossums are seldom taken in snares, but these animals may be snared, and skunks are easily taken in that way, by setting a snare over the entrance of the den. No. 20 brass wire is the proper kind for snaring all kinds of small animals. The snare should be made of two strands, twisted, and must be fastened to a spring pole by means of a short, strong cord, so the skunk cannot twist it off. There must also be a wooden spool on the snare to keep the skunk from biting the wire.
