SMALL BORE—On a long trip on foot through the Sierra Nevada’s, with prospecting and land looking as possible side lines, which gun would be the best to carry—a small bore shotgun, or a Game Getter; and if a shotgun, would the 44 caliber be too small?
I am afraid I cannot give you much advice on this, for I do not know what you want to use the gun for. It would seem that you have something definite in view besides prospecting and land hunting. It would depend mostly on how much of an encumbrance in the shape of a firearm you could carry conveniently, and just how valuable it would be on this trip. The Game Getter is certainly a good arm, but one should not expect as much from a shot barrel of 12 to 18 inches as from a longer one. On the other hand, you also have a .22 caliber rifle barrel in the Game Getter, and it is very convenient to carry in the shoulder holster. The H. & R. .44 caliber uses the same ammunition as the Game Getter, shot and round ball.
