Skunk-To Remove Tail Bone-What is the proper way to skin the tail of a skunk or a mink? Should it be split open and if not how can it be dried? I have tried every season but the tails spoil.
Skin it by stripping the skin with a split stick; don’t split the tail, except that the tail of the skunk may be split down a short distance only and spread out on the board. Make a little split in the tip of the tail of all such animals, to let the air circulate, and if it is very warm and there is any danger of the tail spoiling, put a pinch of salt in it. In general no trapping should be done when the weather is so warm. Treated this way there will be no danger of the skins spoiling.
