SKUNK ODOR—TO REMOVE — I have heard of trappers burying skunks to remove the odor from the fur. How long could one leave them underground without danger of spoiling the fur? Do skunks remain through the winter in the same den which they inhabit in early fall?
A skunk may be buried twenty-four hours in damp earth without harming the fur and that length of time is sufficient to remove all of the odor which can he removed in that way. No, skunks usually travel about in the fall and look up a good den for winter. Often the den used in summer will be uninhabited in winter.
