Skunk-To Dye Black-How and with what can a striped skunk fur be colored black?
Dying furs is something that can not be done successfully by an amateur-it requires much knowledge and experience. The manufacturers cut out the white stripe, and it is not used with natural black fur but is dyed and made up separately. I trust that you were thinking of coloring this fur for your own use, and not to make it sell as a higher grade to the fur dealers. If you were thinking of trying this latter scheme don’t do it. You couldn’t fool a fur buyer that way, and if you are not honest yourself how could you expect the dealer to treat you squarely. Most of the dealers are honest and pay all for raw furs that they can afford to pay-sometimes they even pay too much-although from the way many trappers and shippers talk you wouldn’t believe it. If there is any great profit in the fur business, it is not the raw fur dealer that gets it. I say, play fair and then you are justified in looking for a square deal.
