Size-Reducing-Can you reduce size of mature dogs by breeding?
To reduce size and keep physical vigor and courage requires the most careful application of the laws of scientific application of the laws of scientific breeding and selection. If you go about it intending to learn and apply these, and have about five years to wait, it can be done. Start with an English bull terrier and a beagle. Get two litters from these. Take a dog from one and a bitch from the other and breed them together. Pick out from what you get from this union that best bitch and breed her back to her sire or his brother. You can go on at this for one or two more inter-crosses, but nature will set the limit by giving you at last a puny race. You can probably get your dogs small enough to go into a fox den and at the same time strong enough to do some good in them, if you have the highest kind of courage and physical vigor to begin with, and if you teach all of your pups to hunt and fight. I don’t think it has ever been done. Try it.
