Shooting Foxes-What is the custom where a man shoots a fox being run by hounds other than his own?

I believe that the fox hunters’ rules in the New England states has been that if a man was our with his hound after fox and another party shoots it the hide belongs to the owner of the dog and the party who shoots the fox is entitled to 50 cents, but if the hound is out running by himself the party that kills the fox has he hide unless he is kind enough to give it to the owner of the dog, and that does not happen very often, only once here that I know of.
