Shot Deformation
Shot deformation refers to the fact that as the shot is subjected to the violent trip down the barrel, the individual pellets are often deformed and taken out of round. This shot deformation negatively effects the shot pattern and can cause erratic patterns to be observed. Buffering material is often loaded with the shot to help reduce shot deformation. Plating and the use of chilled shot also helps to reduce shot deformation.
