Seating Depth
Seating depth is depth to which the bullet is seated into the case mouth. While the ammunition manufacturers must seat the bullet to an industry standard in order to ensure that the round can be fired in the millions of firearms produced for the round. The handloader has the luxury of adjusting the seating depth to suit the particular firearm being loaded for. As the bullet is seated deeper in the case, pressures build, likewise if the bullet engages the rifling upon loading; the pressures will be higher than if it is slightly off the rifling.
