|
A deer's senses are much more advanced than humans are; deer can smell and hear you long before they can see you. You can't do much to control noise but you can control your scent and increase your chances at a trophy by following these guidelines.
Controlling Human Odor
Shower using scent free soap and shampoo designed for hunters. Be sure you thoroughly wash your hair, armpits and feet. Rinse thoroughly and dry yourself with a towel that has been washed in scent free detergent. Don't forget to brush your teeth, baking soda is better for scent control than regular toothpaste, as mint is not commonly found in the woods.
Scent Free Clothes
Wash your clothes in a clean washer; it helps to rinse away any soap residue before you begin. Wash your clothes in specially made detergent that is both scent fee and does not contain UV Brighteners. Dry your clothes outside, if you must dry them in a dryer, clean out the lint trap and use a special cover scent fabric softener, if one is not available, try putting some vegetation (cedar/pine) in a cloth bag and place it in the dryer.
In the Field
Use cover scents that closely match what is found in your hunting area, if you don't have cedar trees in you immediate area, then the smell will draw suspicion from deer. Spray yourself down with a scent eliminating spray, especially if you have been walking and perspiring.
