“SCATTER” GUN—I have a single barrel shotgun which shoots too close for my use. How can I make it scatter? Could I have the choke cut off, or would that spoil the gun? I wish to shoot rabbits at close range without tearing them up.
If you load your own shells, by dividing the charge of shot into two or three parts with cardboard wads, the shot will be scattered a good deal—probably enough for your purpose. Of course, with factory ammunition, you can put a wad into the shot. I have mixed two sizes of shot—say 4s and 8s, or 5s and 8s, which makes them scatter. As you suggest, you can file off the muzzle, and two inches will take off the choke. You might better try the above suggestions first, however.
