ROUGH SPOTS IN BARREL—I have a new shotgun that was left dirty five days after shooting with black powder and now there are little specks in the barrel. I do not think it is pitted as the spots seem higher than the surface. I have tried vinegar, kerosene, ashes and soap and boiling water, but cannot get it clean. What can I do for it?
I think that your gun is pitted, for all that the spots appear to be raised above the barrel; I think that they only appear so. If it is pitting, it cannot be removed and even if it is rust, the rough spots will remain after the rust is removed.
