RIFLE TELESCOPE—What make and power of telescope would you advise using on a rifle? Would a telescope of twelve diameters be better than one of eight diameters and show plainer?
I am afraid I don’t know enough about rifle telescopes to give advice on this subject, except on the power of the glass for hunting purposes. You could not use a glass magnifying twelve diameters, except at rest shooting, and eight diameters is entirely too powerful for any kind of hunting. I would select one of four power or under. It is much easier to use, magnifies sufficiently, is brighter, and gives a wider field of vision. A glass magnifying tour times gives you practically four times the advantage over open sights, in vision, but you must remember that errors of holding (trembling and vibration) are magnified just that much also. I think the mountings also should be capable of the finest adjustments.
