The reticle or reticule as it is often referred is the aiming point on a telescopic sight. There are many different styles of reticles available based on the intended use of the firearm. Posts and heavy dots allow the shooter a fast aiming point for jump shooting of running game. Fine crosshairs offer the varmint and target shooter the cleanest view of the target, while heavy or tapered crosshairs are good generally purpose reticle designs.

Some reticles allow the shooter to estimate the range to the target based on a series of indicator marks on the reticle itself, this allows for accurate holdover if needed.
