Reloading High Power Cartridges
Reloading High Power Cartridges-Do you think is it is safe to reload high power cartridges with smokeless powder? The Marlin Firearm Co. claim that a straight shell is better for reloading than a bottle necked shell. If this is so, why have not the straight shells become as popular as the bottle necked ones, such as the .30-30 Winchester?
It is perfectly safe to reload high power smokeless powder cartridges if you follow closely the directions given by the powder and reloading tool makers. But for one who doesn’t know exactly the nature of each brand of powder it is dangerous to experiment with.
Straight shells are not as popular as the bottle necked kind because ewe want, at this day, high power and a small caliber bullet. For this we must have a bottle necked cartridge for smokeless rifle powders require a large air space or dangerous pressures result, and the only way to get this large air space is to enlarge the diameter of the shell behind the bullet, or to lengthen it greatly, which latter idea is not practical.
