Snapper, Red: Caught on medium Striped Bass tackle with a bottom bait of small Shark, Blueflsh or Skipj ack, and rarely with a silver or pearl squid or white rag. Ranges in the Gulf of Mexico from Key West to the Rio Grande. Is occasionally taken further north along the Atlantic coast. Large numbers are caught off the coast of Florida. Found in the South, with the Sea Bass, in holes and gullies of reefs and rocks and sandy bottoms. Weighs up to thirty pounds.
