REBORING DOUBLE BARREL—I have a double barrel shotgun that is badly pitted and rusted and would like to know what to do with it. Would you advise having it rebored? If so, what would this work cost?
You cannot remove pitting or the effects of rust, which are similar in character, as both are a roughening of the barrel caused by the metal being eaten away. I don’t believe you could have this bored out without spoiling the gun, as it would be necessary to enlarge the bore considerably. If the gun is a high grade one, and good enough otherwise to warrant so much expense, you can get the barrels lined with brass, and given any choke desired. This is done by the York Gun & Inventing Co., York, Pa. The cost for brass lining a double gun is $16.00, and you would have to pay the transportation charges. Brass lined barrels will neither pit nor rust and it is claimed that they do better shooting because of reduced friction of shot.
