The free recoil in foot pounds is as follows: .401 caliber with 200 grain bullet, 10.25 lbs., with 250 grain bullet, 11.67 lbs.; .50-40, 11.59 lbs.; .38-55, W. H. V., 9.42 lbs., with low pressure smokeless powder, 5.96 lbs., and with black powder, 8.41 foot pounds.
