REARSIGHT ON .22—What kind of rear sight has the Model 1900, .22 caliber Winchester? Can’t be raised and lowered by means an elevator, and if not can such a sight be put on? Would this rifle be as good for small game up to 200 yards as one having a twenty-two inch barrel?
I believe the Model 1906 Winchester is regularly fitted with a sight that can be elevated only with a screwdriver. The Winchester people make another sight which can be placed on this rifle, which elevates by means of a slide—a very good sight. It is known as the Winchester .22 calibers Sporting Rear Sight, and lists at sixty cents. It is probable that you could not see any difference in the shooting of a twenty and a twenty-two inch barrel, but in theory the longer barrel is better—it gives greater distance between sights and increases the weight slightly, therefore I would prefer the longer barrel. But 200 yards is too long a range for any .22 except for target shooting under the most favorable conditions.
