RANGE OF THE .30-30—Will you please tell me what the range of the Winchester .30-30 carbine is; and is it powerful enough for grizzly bear and moose, using Hoxie bullets?
I can only guess at the extreme range of the .30-30. Held at the proper angle it would probably shoot 2000 or 2500 yards. I do not think that this is what you mean, however, as a knowledge of the extreme range of a weapon is of little value to anyone. I presume you mean the effective range of the arm when used as a game gun.
The .30-30 will do good work up to 600 or 700 yards. One could get good results sometimes at longer ranges, but it is not to be depended on at longer ranges than those mentioned. Most hunters consider it powerful enough for the game you mention, but I advise a larger caliber. I think it will do its best work at short ranges with the regular soft point bullet. At long ranges the Hoxie bullet would probably be best.
