RABBITS—BREEDING, ETC.-When do rabbits have their young and how many do they raise in a summer, also when are they able to take care of themselves?
The breeding habits of all of the American rabbits (hares) are practically the same. From two to five litters are raised in a summer, depending on the latitude, and in the northern sections the first will be born about June. From three to eight young appear at a birth. They are deserted by the mother when a month or five weeks old and as they are very small at that age, comparatively few reach maturity.
